I've noticed something about these ABOUT MEs. They are constructed to encourage people to think of the author in a certain way. These little biographies try to paint a pretty picture of themselves for strangers. It is prepackaged judgement, passed from the author's own perception of him/herself to you.
It's funny because people in general are against judgement. I'm sure you'll relate to one of the quotes below:
"You know my name, not my story. You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through."
"It's always the person you know the least, that judge you the most."
"Don't judge someone just because they sin differently than you."
Etc etc etc
But everyone has failed to realize that we want to be judged. We want others to agree with our perceived self image, like being cool or vivacious. We crave to be judged as interesting or worthy. Not everyone has the same standards - some may hope to be seen as broken or strong, maybe both, maybe a good girl or even a hot mess.
So feel free to read these words and thoughts of mine and judge me.
My Chinese educated friends couldn't pronounce Veronica for shit, they always had some rendition like Behrong or Venomancer. So I came up with Vey-ro-ni-qa. And cos I wanted to be special. Duh.
What is your race/nationality?
I'm Chinese/Malaysian. If you don't know the difference, you can read about it here. And if I'm wrong, leave a comment!
How come your English is fluent?
I always found this to be an insensitive question. But ok, if I wanted to be humble, I'd say English tuition. It's what I tell everyone because it's what everyone wants to hear and papa always told me to be humble. However, this is my blog and here you'll get my honest answer. The tuition I went to was so elementary I got sick of it and quit. The secret is my passion for reading. I always buried myself in books. I was never without a book even after discovering it was considered rude to read in company... I pretty much alienated myself from the world because I enjoyed reading so much, until I discovered friends. Now stop asking people why they are proficient in a certain language because there are only two answers: 1. Passion 2. Necessity. If I had it my way, I'd never have learnt Mandarin or B.M.
